Dr. Lynn Meltzer, president of ResearchILD and lead author of the SMARTS program, highlights why teaching executive function strategies is so important. Executive function processes are goal directed, so if we want our students to become independent learners capable of setting goals and developing a plan to achieve those goals, then executive function strategies are essential. All students benefit, not just students with ADHD or a diagnosed learning difference (aka learning disability). This educational philosophy is a central tenet of Dr. Meltzer’s decades of research and is at the heart of the SMARTS curriculum.
