I wanted to share a great quote from Dr. Lynn Meltzer, president of ResearchILD and lead author of the SMARTS program: Often we hear from teachers, “I have too much content to cover. I don’t have time to teach executive function strategies!” As a former classroom teacher, I know the unbelievable pressure that educators feel to teach a full year’s worth of content and reach every student in the class. Dr. Meltzer emphasizes that teaching students executive function strategies—specifically, learning how to learn—will help them succeed in all their content areas. Teaching executive function strategies may take a little longer up front, but ultimately your students will become more confident, strategic, and self-aware.
