Best of YouTube – Part 2: Working Memory

Welcome to Part 2 of our continuing series on the best YouTube videos that address topics relating to learning differences. Click here for Part 1, covering executive function videos.

Today we will be looking at videos about working memory:

I love this video! Not only does Peter Doolittle present a clear and concise definition of working memory, he also leads his viewers through a number of exercises to help them understand their own use of working memory.

Lisa Archibald clarifies the distinction between short-term memory and working memory, an area of confusion for many people. (We also have a great explanation of this distinction in SMARTS—take a look at Unit 5 Overview!) Archibald employs a terrific metaphor about books in the library, which I definitely will be using the next time I explain working memory!

This is the fourth in a series of videos about working memory by the University of Bristol. I think this video is the most useful because it clearly lays out strategies for engaging working memory such as rehearsal, grouping, and imagery.

What do you think of these videos? If you have other video recommendations, please share them with us in the comments!
